Stepping Strong

Lifelong Fitness Alliance, in collaboration with AARP and the Stanford Health Improvement Program, has developed a 10-week walking and wellness program. This program encourages individuals and communities to step up their overall wellness through peer support and goal setting.

An Ambassador acts as the liaison between their walking group and Lifelong Fitness Alliance (LFA). All participants will receive a 10-week manual full of health and wellness topics such as nutrition, brain fitness, and the importance of sleep. They will also receive a pedometer and tracking calendars to keep track of fruit and vegetable intake as well as daily steps with the pedometer. There is a program fee of $25.00 that covers the cost of the materials each participant receives. We also offer a limited number of scholarships. It is our desire to encourage everyone to participate, regardless of ability to pay.

The “Role” of the Ambassador is to be a leader. You will be a trained volunteer leading a weekly wellness meeting followed by a group walk. Ambassadors are given a training manual and lesson plans for the 10-week program.

Become a Stepping Strong Fitness Ambassador!

Lifelong Fitness Alliance believes that peer encouragement is the strongest catalyst for people to engage in increased physical activity. We have established a grassroots network of volunteers, or Fitness Ambassadors, to provide such a catalyst.

Ambassadors can choose to work with an existing organization (YMCA, Senior Centers, or Recreation Center) or organize their own weekly activity. Ambassadors interested in the Stepping Strong walking and wellness program are trained on leading a group and are supplied with a training manual and lesson plans for the 10-week program.

We like to recognize the hard work our Fitness Ambassadors do on our behalf. Each month we present a $200 gift reward to the Ambassador with the most participants in their group. We also give a $500 gift reward to the Ambassador who recruits the most volunteers in a three month period.

Lifelong Fitness Alliance is available for advice and guidance throughout the 10-week program. Our Ambassadors provide an opportunity for individuals in their communities to be active and stay active.

Being a world-class athlete is certainly not a prerequisite for being a Lifelong Fitness Alliance Ambassador. Ambassadors are everyday people simply passionate about helping people stay as fit and well as possible. Do you want to make a personal commitment to improve fitness in your community?
